 Treating cancer with scorpion venom

Various research to find a cure for cancer is performed. According to the findings, reported in the American Chemical Society (ACS), a compound called chlorotoxin of deadly venom of the scorpion Leiurus quinquestriatus can also help to deliver anti-cancer genes to gliomas, the most common form of brain cancer and serious.
According to Dr. Miqin Zhang and colleagues at the University of Washington, chlorotoxin from scorpion venom lethal lets gene therapy can achieve many brain cancer cells compared to other approaches, Friday (9/9).
In the ACS article, the scientists describe a new approach that can solve the problem by providing specially engineered anti-cancer gene to berinvasi, against brain cancer are difficult to reach. Chlorotoxin from scorpion venom, combined with nanoparticles of iron oxide, can cause almost twice the anti-cancer gene transport into brain cancer cells as nanoparticles that do not contain poisonous scorpion.
Scorpions deadly, also known as Palestine yellow scorpion, which is found from North Africa to the Middle East, and give a very painful sting poison that can be fatal. Nevertheless, toxic drug showed significant promise.
"These results suggest that targeted gene delivery system, can potentially improve treatment outcome of gene therapy for glioma and other deadly cancers," the researchers said.
The team's work is expected to have the potential to revolutionize the treatment of other cancers that kill.
This is not only derived from the venom of wild creatures that show the value of serious drug. In China, neurology successful use of poison centipede to stop the progression of Parkinson's disease. At the National Institutes of Health, researchers are studying the toxins derived from cone snail from the sea, for use in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's and ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.
Previously, the researchers, led by Professor Nigel Minton from Nottingham University, England found in soil bacteria, Clostridia, who live in low oxygen, it can be used to treat cancer.
These findings indicate that nature provides thousands of drugs known, including plants, animals, insects, and microorganisms. Natural substance plays a key role as a chemotherapeutic agent, and as a new system of transportation. And hoped this research as a breakthrough to finding a cure for the deadly cancer.
